How To Set Up Your Digital Download Purchase on Squarespace
The sale of digital downloads is one of those Squarespace features you might not think about until you need it for some cornerstone of your business. The differences between setting up digital purchases and more traditional purchases on your site are small, but we should still cover them in case that’s something you need in the future.
To get started, go to ‘Products & Services’ and ‘Products’ from there. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, Squarespace has a habit of moving things around, so if this is no longer accurate, go to the search function and look for this section from there.
This section has four possible options for products:
Physical Products
Serbices
Digital Downloads
Gift Cards
At the top right of the screen, click ‘Add Product’ and choose to add a download. Now you can fill out all of the many fields required to get the perfect product page for your digital product.
Title
Description (I recommend giving it some good work, more than just a couple sentences)
If your description goes too long, you can also use the ‘Additional Info’ section because too much information in that initial ‘Description’ section can displace things like the ‘Add to Cart’ button
Add Images
Upload Your Digital Download File
Your file can be no larger than 20mb.
Customers get a secure link to the file once purchased, which will last 24 hours after the first download. I recommend putting this information in your product description as well to make sure your clients are well informed as to the purchasing process.

Add Reviews
Once you’ve done all of this, you’ll come to the marketing section of the product page, where you need to make your final few decisions before your digital download page is good to go!
Under the ‘SEO & URL’ section, you can edit the URL of your product (you should absolutely do this), add an SEO title and description (you should also be doing this).
In the ‘Checkout’ section, you can change the checkout form to require additional info of your customers, but since this is a digital product and you wouldn’t need things like shipping information that are necessary for getting physical products to their purchasers, this might not be as important of a concern for you. You can also adjust the ‘Add to Cart’ button text, make it a little more personalized…and that’s it! Hit the save button at the top of the screen, and your digital download product page is live and good to go.
