Album Release Website Design (Squarespace): Daniel Donato

A musician's website has to evolve alongside the music.

For Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country, the website needed to support an artist with a growing national fanbase, an active touring schedule, new music releases, merchandise, and a visual identity that's every bit as distinctive as the sound.

Daniel describes Cosmic Country as a meeting point between Nashville honky-tonk and an improvisational spirit—a sound that bridges traditional country influences with something entirely his own. The website was designed to do the same visually: pulling directly from the artwork surrounding his latest releases while creating a functional online home for everything happening in the world of Cosmic Country.

Designing Around the Music

For musicians, some of the best website design inspiration already exists before the website project ever begins.

Daniel's album artwork, photography, and release graphics provided the starting point for the visual direction of the site. Rather than introducing an unrelated website aesthetic, we pulled colors, imagery, typography, and graphic elements from the world that had already been created around the music.

The result is a website that feels like an extension of Daniel's current artistic era rather than a separate piece of marketing.

Even small details were intentional. The bright pink gradient used throughout the site's calls to action is a nod to the color of the vinyl, while black-and-white and blue-toned concert photography creates the high-energy, atmospheric backdrop for the site.

Strong creative assets can make or break a website design—especially for musicians. When album artwork, photography, and promotional graphics already tell a cohesive visual story, the website can build on that foundation and turn individual assets into a complete digital experience.

A Homepage Built Around What's Happening Now

For an actively touring musician, the homepage can't be static.

Daniel's website was designed to immediately feature what's most important right now. With the upcoming release of Ryman To Robert's, the homepage leads with imagery from the project before introducing the album, its story, and clear calls to action to pre-save the release or pre-order the vinyl.

From there, visitors move directly into upcoming tour dates, giving fans an immediate path from discovering the latest music to seeing Daniel and the band live.

As releases, tours, and priorities change, the homepage can change with them—without requiring the entire website to be redesigned every time a new project launches.

Supporting a New Album Release

Ryman To Robert's captures an especially meaningful moment in Daniel Donato's story.

The live album documents Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country's sold-out debut headlining performance at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, along with selections from a special after-show performance at Robert's Western World.

The two venues bring Daniel's story full circle. Long before headlining the Ryman, he spent years playing four-hour sets with the Don Kelley Band at Robert's—ultimately performing hundreds of shows at the legendary Lower Broadway honky-tonk.

The website gives the new release a prominent home while providing clear paths to pre-save the album and pre-order the vinyl, turning the story behind the project into something visitors can immediately act on.

Tour Dates & Tickets

For a touring artist, getting fans from the website to a ticket purchase should be easy.

Upcoming shows are given prominent placement on Daniel's homepage, with dates, venues, locations, and direct ticket links presented in a simple, easy-to-scan format.

The clean design intentionally steps back here. Fans don't need another elaborate graphic when they're trying to figure out whether Daniel is coming to their city—they need the information quickly.

It's a good example of balancing branding with usability: the surrounding website can feel immersive and visually distinctive while highly functional sections remain straightforward.

Mobile Website Design

For musicians in particular, mobile design isn't optional.

Someone may discover Daniel through a streaming platform, a concert clip, social media post, press feature, or recommendation and immediately click through to his website from their phone.

The mobile experience was designed with those visitors in mind, keeping current music, tour dates, ticket links, and other important calls to action easy to find and use on a smaller screen.

The goal isn't simply to make the desktop website "fit" on mobile. It's to maintain the energy and visual identity of Cosmic Country while making the experience intuitive for fans on the go.

Built on Squarespace

As a Squarespace Authorized Trainer, Squarespace Expert, and Squarespace Circle Member, I often recommend Squarespace for musicians because it provides the flexibility to create a highly customized artist website while remaining manageable behind the scenes.

That's especially important for touring musicians. New releases come out. Tour dates are announced. Artwork changes. Priorities shift.

Daniel's Squarespace website provides a flexible foundation that can evolve with those changes while maintaining a cohesive visual identity across the site.
