Katherine Forbes is the founder of website design business Designing the Row and creator of female community Music Biz Besties. She moved to Nashville in 2011 the day after she graduated college. With no plans, living arrangement or job lined up, she packed up her car and drove to a city where she didn’t know a soul and had never even visited. “I knew that I wanted to work in the music business and that Music City was the place to be,” Katherine explained.
Although holding a dual music degree in Piano Performance and Music Technology, after several weeks in Nashville, she landed in artist management and spent the next few years working with Denise Stiff (DS Management). After designing websites for management clients Sarah Jarosz and the Steep Canyon Rangers, other management teams started hiring Katherine to create sites for their artists too and it ended up taking on a life of its own! In 2016 Katherine launched Designing the Row, a high end yet affordable web design company geared towards musicians and industry professionals.
In November 2016 she attended an event for designers in Palm Springs, CA. She was so inspired by the community and support at that event that she decided to start a similar community for women in the music industry. Music Biz Besties began as a small group of women sharing advice in a Facebook group and has since grown into so much more. The group now has over 3,500 members. It has also grown into a website that provides resources such as a job forum, community directory, workshops, workbooks, a blog, guest interviews, and more!
