Today we’ll be going over how to use Squarespace’s new SEO checker tool, with the assistance of a client of mine, Christina from Renaissance Marketing Group, who I’ve recently done a website refresh for.

Your website should be something that you’re always evolving, so it’s about more than just me coming in and adjusting things once, it’s about building ongoing habits.

How to Access the SEO Checker

Things move around in Squarespace all the time, so you may have to search for it, but as of the time of recording, in the website menu under ‘Website’ you can see the entry for ‘SEO/AI Visibility’. Click on that. Go to ‘Marketing’. Go to ‘SEO Appearance’.

Here you’ll see how your site is viewable on search engines, with your visible titles and meta descriptions. Make whatever changes you need to and close it.

    Improving Your SEO Score

The two main things that this SEO checker looks at are pages with metadata and images with alt text. The SEO checker will let you know how many pages/images are fully devoid of these assets. Click and it’ll pull up all the unfinished pieces of your site and offer suggestions for meta descriptions for these pages. Once you’ve scanned through these options and approved or edited them all, click ‘Next’ to get to the images where you will do the same for their alt text.

For more information on the value of these, check out my Website Weekly video on SEO tips and tools your site needs for visibility.

Another thanks to Christina from Renaissance Marketing Group for letting me use their site as a guinea pig for this new Squarespace tool, be sure to check them out!
