Today I want to discuss something different. Usually I come on here and talk about Squarespace websites and how you can get the most out of the platform. But, as I am “the IT friend” for most of my friends and family, I wanted to also share the different ways I’m using AI or other technologies to improve and optimize my daily life.
Every time I share one of these things, the reaction is very positive, so I wanted to share that here!
Instacart Connection
Today on “what did Katherine figure out”, I figured out that with ChatGPT you can connect the platform to your Instacart account and use it to build a grocery list from existing recipes. If you order your groceries through Instacart like I have for the last six years, this can be a massive time-saver.
This helps you not only build the list but actually find the things in your preferred store in the app and add it to your cart.
Note: To make this a lot easier on myself, I first created a Google doc of recipes that are my go-to recipes for the week. On Sundays every week, I give ChatGPT the command of “these are the dinners I’m going to make, can you pull the ingredient list?” I’ll cross off the ones I already have, and say my preferred store, and all the remaining items will be added to my Instacart cart.
How I Do It
In ChatGPT, you first have to connect your Instacart account. Under plugins, search or scroll for Instacart and log into your account. You should only have to do this once.
Once installed, you should be able to see the settings for the app-to-app connection and you can tweak it however you’d like from there.
Decide what dinners you want to make.
“Based on the recipes I gave you, can you come up with the ingredient list I’ll need for this week?”
Check off the ingredients I have in the checklist and then hit ‘Copy Items Still Needed’ (this is important)
“You can now fill my Instacart with the remaining ingredients. Let’s shop at Publix.”
Note: Sometimes this part may break and you’ll get an error message. This is why you copies the list of items you needed back in step 3, in case this error message comes up and threatens to undo all the progress.Paste the copied items and repeat the command.
Open Instacart to review and confirm choices
And that’s my grocery shopping for the week! If you already use ChatGPT and Instacart, get on this. You don’t even need the document of recipes like I have, it’s just a time-saver, but overall this is my new favorite thing and I just had to share!
I’ll be sharing more life-hack style technology tips soon!
