I'm so excited to introduce you to Tori today - one of the most humble musicians I've ever met! When we first met we were talking about social media with a few others and I asked if she liked doing her own socials as a musician. Her response was very shy and she didn't let on to her following at all... then her husband cut her off and said, "don't let her fool you, she's very good at all of that, she's got a pretty big following!"
Tori, I'm so excited to watch your Nashville journey unfold (and I love following you on social media) and am so glad you're part of Music Biz Besties!
Tell us about yourself! What do you do and what has your journey been like getting to this point?
Hey y'all! My name is Tori Martin. I'm a 22 year old singer/songwriter from Azle, TX. I've been pursing music since I was 14 years old. I started out singing in church and then I began performing in Opry houses around Texas. I spent many years building my fan base and performing throughout the southern region. There have been amazing experiences in my career, but after I was on Season 14 of American Idol I really felt a wind of change headed my way. In the time after leaving the show, I wrote some of the most meaningful songs of my life and I recently released them with a self-titled EP in April of 2017. I also took another leap of faith... I packed up my things and headed for Nashville, TN! I'm now living in Music City and having a blast! To me this is another chapter of my journey and I'm so excited to see where it leads.
What’s a usual day-in-the-life look like for you?
Now that I'm living in Music City... it's write, practice, perform, go out to hear friends, and repeat.
Does community play a role in your career? How so?
Absolutely!! There is nothing more empowering than being supported by and supporting friends + peers! I think it makes it more fun to stay plugged in and it also keeps you going. Friendship is a powerful thing.
What’s your favorite part about the music industry?
I love that the music industry brings people together and gives artists the opportunity to share their music with the world.
Knowing what you know now, if you could go back 5 years and give yourself one piece of advice, what would that be?
If I could go back 5 years, I was tell myself to just have fun and enjoy the journey! I think in the past I was much harder on myself when things didn't "just happen" immediately. Like fine wine, all good things take time.
Teach us something! (Related to your expertise or something random just for fun)
I love to bake for fun!! So a tip for fluffier cakes and cupcakes is to omit the yolk out of the batter and only use egg whites. ;)
